Eberhard and Thomas Voss - Hamm, Germany

Eberhard and Thomas Voss, father and son, pigeon fanciers with heart and soul.

We had the pleasure of visiting the Voss family on november 4th. The occasion was to bring some birds for our friend Larry Jolly, which were to be transported further on their way to the USA. It was the first time to meet the Voss family, and I must say I was impressed by these people. It is seldom you meet such nice people. We were warm welcomed, and they turned out to be great pigeonfanciers.

When we arrived coffee and lunch was served, in the meanwhile we had the opportunity to get to know these people better. Conversation on who we are, who they are, what kind of pigeons, history and mutual acquantainces.

After this we were invited to see the lofts and pigeons. Great birds were shown. Norwich Croppers in a lot of colours and a fine quality, Shirash Tublers and Racing Homers in incredible colours were shown.

Clearly these people love their birds, handling them with care and one can tell a lot of time is spend with the birds. The Norwich were so well trained, not one jumped up, and showed their best whenever asked by the visitors. When asked after this, Eberhard just smiled and confirmed this. Meanwhile Thomas was telling about the features and genetics of their birds. It turned out that almost all their birds are related. With the knowledge of colorgenetics, all birds show a fine colouring and explainations were made on how every bird is related in color or offspring.

What really stunned me were the Racing Homers, kept as feeders for the Norwich, but kept in so many different colours, and cleary used to learn more and try out the knowledge of Thomas to the Genetics. Some times other colors of other breeds are crossed in to accomplish yet another color or genetic value.

It was worth to drive the 300 kilometres to visit the Voss family, to do Larry the favour of bringing his birds, and most important to meet the Voss family. In the future I hope to hear and see more of them, great people and great pigeon fanciers.

My companion for the day Aron couldn't agree more.
